Entrepreneurs and organizations expand ecosystem in the Delta and pitch ideas to regional investors

Delta Entrepreneurship Network announces schedule of programs at
New Orleans Entrepreneur Week

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Thirty-three entrepreneurs and representatives from entrepreneurship support organizations (ESOs) will be participating in special segments of next week’s New Orleans Entrepreneur Week as part of the Delta Regional Authority’s Delta Entrepreneurship Network Fellowship.

In its second year of participating in NOEW, the DEN will host four days of programming that will advance the regional conversation about strengthening the Delta’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The week begins with programming for leaders of historically black colleges and universities that will focus on strategies for incorporating HBCUs and their entrepreneurs into the region’s ecosystem.

On Thursday, DEN programming culminates in the Delta Entrepreneur Showcase, at which each of the DEN entrepreneur fellows will pitch their businesses to investors and try to convince participants from the public to vote for their idea. Judges will choose three entrepreneurs to pitch for three minutes on stage to regional investors at Manning’s Courtyard.

Throughout NOEW, the DEN fellows and HBCU leaders will participate in the full schedule of programmatic seminars, workshops, and mentorship from panelists and industry offered in addition to DEN programming.

The participating entrepreneurs were selected through the Delta Challenge, a series of six pitch competitions held across the Delta region in Fall 2015. The entrepreneurship support organizations were identified through an application and interview process with regional experts and practitioners in entrepreneurship. The entrepreneurs and ESOs come from seven DRA states, representing both rural and urban communities, and are listed here.

The Delta Entrepreneurship Network was launched by DRA in January 2015 to identify, connect, and grow entrepreneurs in the Delta region and those organizations supporting them into a vibrant ecosystem of innovation and economic success. Over the course of the fellowship, DEN fellows receive technical assistance in pitch development, business planning, marketing and branding, and other important entrepreneurship skills.
